Story

The NVFPA is a group of public and private agencies and organizations dedicated to promoting programs and strategies that decrease falls and fall-related injuries in older adults and at-risk individuals across the region. The Alliance works to increase independence, spread awareness, and improve the quality of life of older adults by increasing access to programs that are proven to reduce the risk of a fall. 

Our Timeline

2016-2018

  • Reached over 1540 Older adults

  • Trained 276 Coaches

  • Offered 85 Workshops

In August 2016, Marymount University (MU) was awarded its first round of funding to implement the Academic Community Partnership for Falls Prevention Network Hub by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living (ACL), Older Americans Act Falls Prevention grant to initiate evidence-based falls prevention programs (EBFPP) offerings in Northern Virginia (NOVA) and to build the infrastructure for a regionally integrated falls prevention network. 

2018-2023

  • Reached over 5908 Older adults

  • Trained 411 Coaches

  • Offered 217 Workshops

In July 2018, Marymount University was awarded a second round of funding from the ACL, Older Americans Act Falls Prevention Grant to continue our work in providing evidence-based falls prevention programs for older adults and at-risk individuals across the region.

2023-2027

  • To date 1846 Older adults reached

  • To date 220 Coaches trained

  • To date 150 Workshops offered 

In May 2023, Marymount University was awarded a third round of funding by ACL to expand and focus specifically on underserved communities. Current goals include:

  • ​Develop the capacity to increase the number of diverse older adults who participate in EBFPPs to empower them to reduce falls and/or their risk of falls.

  • ​Establish and implement two robust strategies for the long-term sustainability of the ERASE-Falls project within the daily operations of the MCOA.
